8 Great Restaurants to Try in Cardiff

If you are searching for a driving instructor, Cardiff is a great place to learn to drive. This thriving city has much to offer, including some of the best restaurants on the planet.

Once you’ve passed your driving test, the whole city is open to you and you’ll be able to go anywhere. Here we take a look at some of the great restaurants that you may want to try.

1. Heaneys

Situated in the heart of Pontcanna, not far from the city centre, Heaneys is the brainchild of chef Thomas Heaney and is a restaurant that has garnered a strong reputation over the last few years.

The menu changes regularly and there is a great vegan provision which you don’t find in many other restaurants. All food is locally sourced and Sunday lunch is a very popular time so expect to have difficulty booking.

2. Saray

Turkish cuisine often doesn’t get a look in with best restaurant lists but Saray certainly deserves a mention and is one of our favourites. It opened in 2015 and has a wide menu to suit almost any taste.

Located on City Road, it always seems to busy whether it’s lunchtime or evening. With a capacity to seat 150 diners, it’s the perfect place for a family get together, business celebration or even a wedding.

3. Bwydiful

If you are searching for awesome cheerful food that suits all the family. Bwydiful offers homemade burgers that will definitely fill you up.

The menu might be limited, but there’s plenty of tasty treats, all with home sourced ingredients. Their signature burger, Caws Caws, is covered in flavoursome Welsh rarebit and can be served with local craft beer.

4. The Brass Beetle

For those that love wood-fired pizza and plenty of atmospheres, The Brass Beetle is one of the newer restaurants our driving instructors in Cardiff like to frequent. This restaurant also caters for customers that prefer gluten-free as well as vegetarians and vegans.

5. Anna Loka

Great vegan restaurants can be a bit thin on the ground but, in Cardiff, we think we’ve got things covered. At the heart of Anna Loka is a Hare Krishna monk entrepreneur who wanted to build a place where vegans could dine and eat what they want without worrying about cross-contamination.

Situated on Albany Road, it’s well known for its amazing breakfasts, whole food bowls, wraps and burgers. If you thought that vegan meant dull food, a visit to Anna Loka is sure to change your mind in a heartbeat.

6. Purple Poppadom

Everyone seems to love a good curry but if you are searching for something a little out of the ordinary, booking a table at the Purple Poppadum is certainly worth it.

This multi-award winning restaurant on Cowbridge Road East also does takeaways and puts its own creative slant on some more traditional Indian dishes.

7. Chapel 1877

Quality of food isn’t the only thing that we tend to look for in a restaurant. The location also makes a big difference. That’s one of the things that makes Chapel 1877 one of the most popular venues in Cardiff.

It’s in an amazing chapel that was built in 1877 and covers three floors. The minute you walk in and see the amazing mosaic walls, you know you are in for a great experience. Sunday lunch is a popular time and you will have to book early to get in.

8. Pieminister

Technically not a restaurant but still worthy of a place on this list, if you haven’t heard of it Pieminister is currently taking over cities in the South including Cardiff. And if you love a good pie and want something tasty that fills you up for the day, their place on St Mary Street is a perfect choice. They also have a great selection of vegan pies and the option for takeaway as well as sit down and eat.
